FAQ

UMAT 2017

We are proud to be partnered with MedView, New Zealand's leading medicine entry provider. In 2016, 294 students with MedView gained admission into Medicine and/or Dentistry at the University of Otago and the University of Auckland. MedView is endorsed by doctors, teachers, parents and has been providing the most effective pre-medicine and pre-dentistry preparation in New Zealand since 2007.

You cannot effectively practice UMAT just on your computer. Cumulative evidence has shown that the most effective way is to practice questions using specific strategies on printed paper, under simulated timed conditions.

MedView's UMAT course replicates this perfectly.

The course consists of:

-27 full hours of teaching over 6 days. Teaching all the techniques you need to ace every question that you come by at the UMAT.

-THREE full course guides, for sections 1, 2, and 3. The 10th edition, written by MedView's expert team for the 2017 UMAT. These includes comprehensive guides for each section as well as 1000's of practic questions. You will cover this in the course and these books are for you to keep!

-TWO Simulated 3 hour mock exams, with exam papers, scantron sheets- you will sit these under timed conditions exactly as the real exam. Your answers will be marked and the tutor will go over answers and explanations for all questions.

-All tutors are current University of Otago Medical Students who scored 100 percentile in the UMAT last year. You've got the best of the best in terms of content and teachers.

All of this provided for under $15 per hour!

Spaces are limited, all spots are allocated on a first in first serve basis.

At the moment UniTutor is operating in Dunedin, specialising in University level tutoring.
Do I have to be a current University student to become a Tutor?
No. However a University degree or equivalent experience is required.
Can I become a Tutor even if I am currently a University Tutor?
Yes. In fact we encourage it. Tutoring is not about giving someone the answers it’s about teaching a process so that they can work it out themselves.
How is contacting a Tutor from a notice board any different than using UniTutor?

Questions asked by Students

When is the earliest that I can book a Tutorial?
The earliest you can book a Tutorial is 48 hours in advance (2days from now).
Can I txt or email my Tutor?
If your Tutor gives you this information then yes. However they are not required to do this.
Can I bring a friend to my Tutorial?
You can only bring the number of people that you booked for. For example - If you booked a two on one tutorial and you bring a third person, the Tutor will not Tutor all three. It is also not acceptable to give the Tutor extra money on arrival of an extra student as our Tutors will not accept cash.
What happens if I can’t make my Tutorial that I have already booked?
Once you book a Tutorial that time slot becomes yours. If you cannot make it you are forfeiting your session. Please make sure that the time suits when you initially book as UniTutor does not do refunds. The main reason for this is so that we look after our Tutors.
What if I am running late to my scheduled Tutorial?
The Tutor is required to wait at the meeting point for a minimum of 15 minutes. After this, the Tutor is not required to stay and may leave. If you arrived after the first 15 minutes of your session it is very likely that you are too late which will result in you forfeiting your session.
Who do I contact if I have a problem with my Tutor?
If there is a problem contact us immediately. We take tutoring very seriously and will do our best to find a solution straight away. You can do this via our Contact Us page.
What do I do if I can’t find a Tutor for a really important paper?
If UniTutor doesn’t have a Tutor for a specific paper, head to the Contact Us page and request one. Once this happens, UniTutor staff will begin searching for you.
